1st XV Match Report vs – Grammar

With a great support base the 1st XV put on a show worthy to end the season. Going down 34-17, due to some unlucky errors, all the boys showed just what commitment over a whole season can produce. It is a credit to our coaches for getting us prepared for this game and we managed to scare a few Grammar faithfuls in the process. A great way to finish the season with a game hopefully many will remember.

13As match report

24-24…
The team played amazingly well despite letting in 1 try early in the half.
Special note to ned and eugene for there amazing kicking. In the end it was
grammar ahead and last play, michael chang gets the ball of a penalty tap
and tanks his way over the line. our kicker has to get it in to draw, and he
does. 3 tries scored by me… :D and one by michael chang secured a well
deserved draw against grammar’s A’s. Well done high!

13Ds match report

The season ended on a high note for the 13Ds. Playing Grammar’s 13Cs was entertaining with High running in 12 tries. The 13Ds controlled the ball for most of the game, barely giving away possession. When the opposition did get the ball, everyone was onto them. Eventually, Grammar was scared to pick up the ball, which showed when the fullback only walked to the rolling ball. Tackling won us the game, with try saving tackles from everyone, especially Jason Zhang. The game ended at 66-0.

Congratulations guys and I hope to see you next season!

1st XV weekly report 29-8-09

With a breakthrough win for the 1st XV against Scots everything seems to be coming together at the right end of the season. Replicating the determination shown in Armidale earlier in the season, initial flashes of brilliance gave us an early lead, but it truly came to the forefront with the final minutes played desperately defending our line with a four point margin. The intensity brought to this game holds the team in good stead for the upcoming Grammar contest. In what promises to be the toughest game of the season we now have the confidence coming off this gutsy win to challenge a realistically beatable Grammar.

cheers

13Ds Match Report

The 13Ds won in a thrilling match on an all but fine day. The 13Ds walked out onto the field with the rain pouring. Tries to Lokgei Lee, Howard Gu and Rex Yi in the 1st half, High went into half time with the score at 19-0. The next half was just as tough as the last with countless tackles on both sides until Pinyan Gao scored. With minutes to go, Scots put in a last effort only to score right before the end of the game. The end score was 24-5. Congratulations boys on a great win.

13A’s rugby

The game between SBHS 13A’s and Newington 13B’s was INTENSE.  With 5 tries in the first half and 2 tries in the second half we put up a mighty defence in which Newington couldn’t break. But our conversions were off and we only scored 1 conversions so overall we won 37 to 0. Through that match the forwards learned to use the power of goosh goosh, something Alan Feng uses to unleash his aggroness. The backs perfected their moves with the forwards and the team had a good fun and extremely intense game.

13D’s rugby

The 13Ds played Shore in an interesting match. Immediately after kick-off, Pinyan Gao scored a try. Later on, Pinyan scored another 2 tries off the scrum. Waylon Lu scoring off a lineout and Rex Yi scoring off a hard run. One was converted and another just scraped over.

Unfortunately, the Shore Number 8 managed to score 7 tries on his own. He scored 6 times under the post, except when he was stopped short. After a valiant effort, we lost 47-29. Congratulations on a great effort!

14B match report

14Bs 5 lost to Newington 35

The 14Bs showed great improvement this week with much stronger defence then in weeks previous. However the 14Bs let the referees decisions get to them and lost some focus in the game. Despite this the 14Bs showed much improvement and are looking forward to games to come.

High 16As vs Newington 16Cs match report

High 16As were prepped for an 8am match against Newington 16Cs. Despite many early warnings beforehand and a lot of effort, many players didn’t manage to arrive early enough for a full warm-up. After hastily going through some set plays, High took to the field against Newington. From the kick off we knew that we were the better drilled and better trained side. High scored 4 unanswered tries in the first half through quick hands and excellent line running by outside centre Nathan Kok. However, High’s careless mistakes eventually lead to a Newington try immediately after half time. Despite this, High rallied and scored two more tries before the end of the game, the final score 34-5. Despite a good win, many issues were highlighted such as poor rucking and vision and the High 16As resolved to strive to train and work together as a team in future games.

Scorers: Shadman Ali, Michael Wong, Nathan Kok, Derek Trang (2) tries, Jonah Petrie 2 con.

14b Report

14Bs 12 lost to Joeys 31

A large improvement from the 14Bs showed that they could string large amounts of phases together. However in defence the 14Bs allowed joeys through too easily with some poor tackling. The 14Bs showed that they can play good rugby and with steady improvement can win games.

Tom Connolly

15b Report

15b’s lost 24-12.

We started slow conceding 3 early tries but good attack from our forwards resulted in a runaway try for Eric Li right before the half. We scored the 1st try in the second half thanks to some good captaincy and some cleverness by Jesse. But our ill-discipline and a sin-bin resulted in Joeys scoring 2 more tries.

1st XV

In a great return to our home ground, Mckay 1, the 1st XV put on a show worthy for our supporters. In a close game against St Josephs 3rds we ultimately went down in the final minutes to lose 19-16. With free-flowing rugby and an emphasis on territory we continued our run into form that sees every week a vast improvement on the last. With every player rising to the occasion of contesting a strong joeys outfit we were unlucky not to finish with the win. From here we will look towards next week where we will be playing the St Josephs 17A’s and continue searching for our deserving victory. Thank you for your continuing support.

13Cs

On Saturday, 15th August, the 13C’s played against Joeys at Rushcutters bay. Right after the C’s kick-off, Joeys scored a try straight up, followed by a beautiful conversion. Everyone on our team was disappointed, but we didn’t give up. The rest of the first half wasn’t so bad, with High only letting in 4 tries, an improvement compared to last week. We made some good tackles, but we still didn’t score. The second half was worse than the first, with High letting in 7 tries. By the end of the day, the C’s were exhausted and hurting, but we all had fun.

By Alan Qi, C’s Captain

13Ds

The 13Ds played the Joeys, a formidable opponent showing much improvement from their first game. The tackling had improved significantly, and the team never gave up, which eventually led to two tries.

Congratulations on a great effort by the entire team, and an extra congratulations to Pinyan Gao and Bevan Xie who managed to score their first tries of the season.
Overall, a good job.

14as and bs match reports

14As 33 beat Shore Bs 0
The 14A’s came up with a convincing win on Saturday, with a great team effort in both offence and defence. With continued improvement the 14As can be competitive at an A grade level.
14Bs 0 lost to Shore Ds 28
The scoreboard did not tell how closely the teams were matched. However, some lax defence and lack of communication gave Shore some easy tries. The 14B’s need everyone to attend training to ensure that they are prepared for Joey’s.
